The Executive Board and the management of Hotel Ramada Graz in the town of Premstätten (Styria, Austria) launched an offensive for the training of young professionals. The existing shortage of trained specialists in the Austrian hotel industry requires the hotel management to train young professionals by themselves and take them over as skilled workers after their apprenticeship. RIMC Austria Hotels & Resorts operates five hotels in Austria and currently trains 31 apprentices.
At the Hotel Ramada Graz, 8 apprentices are currently being trained in the four apprenticeship professions “Hotel and Hospitality Assistant”, “Hotel Manager”, “Restaurant Manager” and “Gastronomy Manager”. Two apprentices, who will successfully complete their three-year training in December 2017 and February 2018, have already signed permanent employment contracts with the hotel.
In order improve the practical training, the Executive Board and hotel management have additionally appointed four people, one for each area of training. These apprentice representatives will organize and accompany the daily practical training in addition to the heads of department. As part of the apprentice trainer qualification, they will participate in the trainer course at the WIFI (the main education institution in Austria). The apprentices were provided with folders, which include the required contents of the WKO (Austrian Economic Chamber) as well as the criteria for the performance assessment per quarter. Every week apprentices will run a training journal and discuss it with their representatives. The aim is to determine the progress of practical training.
From now on, there are held quarterly apprentice meetings in order to discuss the theoretical and practical results of the apprentices. Every quarter there is awarded the best apprentice. The three best apprentices from the RIMC hotels in Austria will take part in the “Azubi of the year” apprentice competition in Hamburg in April 2018. As part of a gala evening, the best apprentices from the RIMC hotels in Germany and Austria will be awarded.
So that also the hotel and restaurant guests of the Hotel Ramada Graz can convince themselves of the efficiency of apprentice training, a “Apprentice’s Day” will be held in March 2018. On this day, the apprentices occupy all the department manager positions, including the position of the hotel manager, and take over the management of the hotel.
The Hotel Ramada Graz in the federal state of Styria has currently has still open apprenticeship positions.
